Preparedness Resources for Surviving an Attack
Waldo County EMA recognizes that the threat of a nuclear attack did not go away with the end of the Cold War. In 1989, our Nation celebrated our cold war victory and decided politely not to talk about it anymore. Today, the United States, United Kingdom, France, Isreal, India, Pakistan, China, Russia and North Korea all have long range deliverable nuclear weapons. It is estimated that these countries possess over 17,000 nuclear weapons. Almost 9,000 of those weapons are in the possession of countries that aren’t our best friends. This page is a resource for residents who want to learn more about the threat.
